Advent markets Stockholm
One of the best ways to learn about a country’s Christmas traditions is to visit a local Advent market. There are several to choose from in Stockholm. The most famous place is Gamla Stan on the island of Stadsholmen, where the biggest Christmas market in Stockholm is held on this occasion.
Not far behind is the island of Djurgarden , where the royal gardens of Rosendal are dotted with craft stalls. Those who are more sporty can skate under the open sky at the ice rink in the Kungstradgarden park.

The Stortorget Christmas market in the Old Town (Gamla Stan) is a market whose history dates back to the Middle Ages , to be precise, to the middle of the 14th century.

What to see in Stockholm?
There are many nice sights in Stockholm. Scandinavian architecture is quite different from ours, so there is much to discover.
Stockholm City Hall
The town hall dates from the first half of the 20th century. It is known all over the world because the Nobel Prizes are awarded here every year (except for the Nobel Peace Prize, which is awarded in Norway). Guided tours are organized in the town hall. They always start on the hour, the first leaves at 10:00, the last at 15:00.
Royal Palace
In the historic part of the city called Gamla Stan, there is a huge royal palace. The ruling family does not live there, so the interior is accessible to visitors. It is open every day in November and December from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can buy tickets on the spot and in advance online.
Riddarhuset (House of Nobility)
You can also learn how the Scandinavian nobility lived in Riddarhuset, a smaller palace of Dutch architecture. You can come for a tour from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Open-air museum
The open-air museum was already mentioned in connection with the Christmas markets. In contrast to the Royal Palace with the House of Nobility, you will learn how ordinary people used to live.
Vasamuseet (Vasa Museum)
Are you interested in military history? In the Vasa Museum you can see a battleship from the 17th century. Unfortunately, it was wrecked due to an engineering error. In the winter season, it is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Wednesdays the visiting hours are extended until 8 p.m. Tickets can be bought on the spot or via the internet, children and young people under 18 have free entry.
Nordiska Museet (Museum of Art and Culture)
View the collection of Swedish paintings and soak up the history of Swedish culture. Opening hours are every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
