What can you look forward to?

The Avignon Christmas market completely transforms the entire town. Various nativity scenes can be found in the local churches and along the Palais du Roure. The illuminated buildings create a special atmosphere for the event. The music and street entertainers make it a fantastic experience for children.

Avignon is a city that still holds strong to the tradition of Christmas. It features a market with around 30 chalets offering gift ideas to place under the Christmas tree. Visitors can explore food specialties to enjoy at the Christmas table or to indulge in on the spot.

It’s also an opportunity to continue the Provençal 13 desserts tradition, a well-established culinary tradition in which 13 sweet dishes are served for Christmas dessert. Some of these dishes include dried figs, quince cheese, white nougat, and calissons.

One highlight is the Célestins church, where you can admire the large traditional nativity village and meet enthusiastic santon makers.

The Avignon Christmas Markets only last for three days, but there are a few events taking place in several locations around the city on Christmas Day that you shouldn’t miss if you happen to be in France that day. Thanks to them, you will enjoy Christmas a little more than usual. 

You can visit:

• skating rink, which is open to visitors at Place de l’Eglise – Montfavet
• Creative decoration workshops will be held at the Célestine Church, which will be open to visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and then from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; in the same place, you will also find a Provençal crèche and a village of chansonniers and artisans, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Christmas Merchants Market at Place Saint-Jean le Vieux, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Enchanted Christmas Forest, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Place de l’Horloge
• a small farm with a small carousel at the Place des Corps Saints, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• a magical Christmas landscape at Place Saint-Didier from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• Santa’s Hut, which will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the Place de l’Horloge
