Stars are an essential decoration for Christmas. Why not include them in your kitchen too?
Liven up your Christmas board with lemon stars that are pretty to look at and taste great.
Ingredients
Dough:
- 1 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of butter
- 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 egg
Decoration:
- 1 egg for brushing
- ground walnuts and granulated sugar for sprinkling
Method
- Sift plain flour with icing sugar, freshly grated lemon zest, lemon juice, and butter into a bowl. Cut the mixture into pieces.
- Make a smooth dough, wrap it in cling film, and let it rest in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
- Then, roll out the dough on a floured rolling pin into a thin sheet.
- Cut out stars from the dough (you can, of course, choose another shape), transfer them to a tray lined with baking paper, and bake in an oven preheated to 350°F.
- Bake for about 9 minutes. While still hot, roll the lemon candy in a mixture of powdered sugar and vanilla and let it cool.
- Store the finished stars in a candy box and let them rest for 1-2 weeks. This will soften the candy. In addition, the lemon will spread beautifully inside, intensifying the flavor of the candy.
