Lard crescent cookies with lemon glaze
7. 10. 2025
We are definitely not done with lard yet. It also adds great taste and elasticity to another popular type of Christmas candy – crescent moons.
This recipe allows you to decide whether to make a light version of the dough, a dark version with cocoa, or a little bit of both. The lemon glaze on top gives the right fresh finish.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of softened lard
- 1 cup of coarse flour
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 4 egg whites
- baking powder
- 4 tablespoons of cocoa (use a high-quality cocoa powder)
For the frosting:
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of warm water
Method:
- Whip the egg whites until stiff and then mix with the rest of the ingredients.
- Pour the dough onto a greased and lined tray or baking paper and bake at 356°F for about 20-25 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the lemon glaze by mixing well-sifted icing sugar with lemon juice and warm (not hot) water.
- Allow the baked dough to cool and then spread the frosting.
- Leave the frosting to harden in a cool place and then cut out crescents one after the other using a rolling pin.
