Carrot rolls with poppy seed filling

Unlock the full potential of poppy filling beyond the traditional poppy seed strudels and give your taste buds a delightful surprise with carrot rolls..

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour.
  • 1 1/2 cups finely grated carrots
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • a pinch of salt

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 1 cup of ground poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • sugar to taste
  • a little ground cinnamon
  • a little lemon zest
  • a dash of rum (just for taste)

Method:

  1. Grate the carrot on a fine grater and mix with the other ingredients.
  2. Process a smooth dough.
  3. Let the finished dough rest in the refrigerator for about half an hour, wrapped in foil.
  4. Boil the milk with poppy seeds and the other ingredients for the filling and leave to cool.
  5. Divide the dough into 3 parts. Roll out a circle from each piece.
  6. Cut the circle into 8 parts.
  7. Put the filling on the wider sides of the pieces and twist them into a roll-like shape.
  8. Put the finished rolls on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  9. Bake at 410°F for about 20 minutes.
  10. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar, which you have previously mixed with vanilla sugar.
