These scrumptious spirals are made from puff pastry and are a perfect alternative to traditional pizza. They are versatile and can be filled with a variety of ingredients such as tomato sauce, cheese, meats, vegetables, and herbs.
This dish is not only delicious but also incredibly easy to prepare, making it an ideal option for busy weeknights or lazy weekends.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of puff pastry
- 2.5 oz of tomato puree
- 1 teaspoon basil pesto
- 1 clove of garlic
- 3.5 oz of English bacon or ham
- 3.5 oz cheese – gouda, mozzarella
- 1 egg
- a handful of baby spinach or arugula
- dried oregano
- salt
- chili flakes to taste
Instructions:
- Mix the tomato puree, basil pesto, finely chopped garlic, a pinch of salt, and oregano in a bowl.
- Spread the mixture on the rolled-out puff pastry, leaving only the edges free.
- Evenly distribute sausage slices on top of the dough, then add cheese and baby spinach or arugula leaves.
- Roll the dough tightly from the bottom, and brush the free edge with the egg to help it stick.
- Cut the roll into 18-21 pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper at small intervals.
- Brush each piece with beaten egg and sprinkle with crushed chili flakes if desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 390°F for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown. Once done, let the spirals cool for a bit before serving.
