Homemade Grinch Crinkle Cookies

7. 10. 2025

These Homemade Grinch Cookies boast a crinkly sugar exterior and a buttery, soft, almond-flavored interior. Let’s get baking!

Here are some baking tips:

To achieve that desired crinkle look where the cookies spread just enough to get cracks with sugar still coating the top while having a soft interior, follow these steps:

  • Chill the dough beforehand. The cold dough on the inside will take longer to bake, while the exterior will bake to crispy perfection!
  • Roll the dough in granulated sugar first, then in powdered sugar. This food science tip helps draw out the moisture from the inside to achieve the lovely crinkle on the outside. The granulated sugar helps the powdered sugar stick and not melt while baking.
  • Set the oven rack closer to the top part of the oven so that the exterior of the cookie bakes faster than the interior.

    Ingredients:

    • ½ cup of sugar
    • ¼ cup cane sugar
    • ½ cup room temperature butter
    • 2 eggs at room temperature
    • 2 teaspoons of almond extract
    • 1 and ¾ cup plain flour
    • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon of salt
    • green food coloring or matcha powder
    • ¼ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup powdered sugar
    • red icing or red sugar hearts (optional)

    Method

    • Beat sugar, cane sugar, and butter until creamy (about 3 minutes at medium speed).
    • Add eggs and almond extract one at a time.
    • Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and gradually add them to the mixer.
    • Gradually add the food coloring until you get the desired green color.
    • Cover and refrigerate the dough for 2 hours.
    • When you are ready to bake the crinkles, preheat the oven to 350°F.
    • Take the dough out of the fridge and make a ball out of 1.5 tablespoons of the dough.
    • Roll the ball in granulated sugar and then in powdered sugar.
    • Continue like this until you use all the dough.
    • Place 2 inches apart on a lined baking sheet.
    • Bake on the upper oven rack for 10-13 minutes, or until you notice air bubbles escaping between the cookies’ crinkles.
    • Let cool completely.
    • Decorate the crinkles with red sugar hearts or paint hearts on them using red icing (see photo below).
    • Bon apetite!
